All About Recovery From Eye Surgery

Whatever kind of surgery you may have had on your eyes, there are certain steps of precaution that you may want to take. Most doctors will tell you that during your recovery from eye surgery, you will feel a little discomfort. However, this is not always the case. No one has the same side effects after having an eye surgery procedure done. Because no one heals the same, others react differently to different levels of pain, just because one person felt pain and discomfort while recovering from eye surgery, does not always mean that you will as well.

Most people going through recovery from eye surgery will be sensitive to light. This is because your eyes are recovering, and may burn or sting when they are exposed to a bright light. However, it is recommended that you wear some type of patch over your eyes after surgery, while you are recovering to help protect your eyes from light, as well as any debris or dust. Wearing a patch over your eyes may be hard to do, but if it is your doctor’s order for having a successful recovery from eye surgery, you should follow through. While no one likes to be in the dark, and not able to see, this is only for the best interest of a successful recovery from eye surgery.

At times when you are going through recovery from eye surgery, you will have to administer eye drops into your eyes. These eye drops may be a special prescription that will help your eyes heal, or may even be eye drops that will minimize discomfort or pain that is associated with having an eye surgery procedure. If you have trouble getting the drops into your own eyes after surgery, it is a good idea to have someone else do this for you. Be sure that the tip of the eye dropper does not touch your eye or anything else for that matter. This will help to keep you from getting infections or spreading germs into your healing eyes.

Be sure that you talk to your surgeon about recovery from eye surgery before it is performed. Knowing in advance if you will be able to drive home, or need someone to be with you, will help you to plan out your surgery, and make necessary arrangements for recovery. Many times you will be told that you will not be able to drive after your eye surgery. You should never try to drive anyway, and follow the doctor’s orders, so that you have a successful recovery from eye surgery.
