What to Expect During Eye Laser Surgery
Eye laser surgery is more or less an outpatient type surgery. You walk into the facility to have the procedure performed, and then when it is over, you walk out and go home. You are not kept over night, and it is not considered a major surgery to have this procedure performed. The actual procedure does not take longer than a minute to preform. Rarely will you be put to sleep while you are having laser surgery performed on your eyes.
While many people find that eye laser surgery is not painful, your eyes will get drops that will anesthetize them, to be sure that you do not feel any discomfort during the procedure. The eye surgery is then performed while you are laying down, and only one eye at a time will be operated on.
When you are having your eye laser surgery, you will not be expected to hold your eyes open yourself. The surgeon will use a device that will keep your eye open, this device does not cause discomfort while in use. Because the surgeon will have to cut the cornea flap in your eye, the device will help keep your eye pressurized to make this possible.
After marking the area that the flap should be, it will then be created with the laser. The laser will be adjusted to correct your vision, for your eyes. During your eye laser surgery, you will have to concentrate on looking at a light, while the laser is being used. Keeping your eyes on the light while this is being done, is very important for good results. However, there are some lasers that can follow your eye, if it were to move during the procedure. While you are keeping your eyes on the light, the laser will then remove the tissue that is associated with your bad vision.
While eye laser surgery is generally a painless procedure, you may not want to have both eyes done on the same day. Be sure and talk to your surgeon, and decide which option is best for you.
